Soft Skills and Circle of Influence

The person whom you idolise, whether he/she is someone for the family or some renowned personality, their skills and the way they work are great sources that influence. There is where you start with improving your skills to achieve your goals and succeed.

Knowing how to negotiate, listening to others, and offering praise when due are all soft skills that all successful leaders have.  According to a survey by LinkedIn, some of the most desired soft skills are- creativity, persuasion, collaboration, adaptability and emotional intelligence. These skills do not only help you in your professional endeavours but also in personal ones.

The term “soft skills” has been taken seriously nowadays, these skills that are commonly known as “people” or interpersonal attributes are key to your success. They help you crack an interview, get a job, work in a team, lead a team and take a front stage, leading you to massive achievements.

It may surprise you that the US Department of Labour also shared their thoughts on soft skills, saying that skills such as communication, teamwork, enthusiasm and attitude, problem-solving, critical thinking, networking and professionalism are essential to reach any given goal. 

These soft skills are thought to be natural – abilities that a person either possesses or does not possess. However, most soft skills are driven by emotional intelligence, which is changeable, as opposed to intellect, which is static.

Soft Skills are skills that help us understand our feelings and thoughts, as well as respond correctly to various circumstances in the best way possible, so that we may work as individuals and in teams to traverse the complexity of life.

At the personal level, a big number of skills are included in soft skills, and another set assists us in dealing with others. However, if you look at them all together, the personal ones deal with ideas and emotions, and these are the intangibles that define us, and we must control our inner self and then the people as our inner thoughts and feelings materialize in skills. Inner and outer traction are both necessary.

Although it has been demonstrated that soft skills can be developed, it is critical to realize that progress does not occur only via study. Soft skills can only be acquired via a process of change and practice, which may be both challenging and painful at times.

Circle of Influence

Some of the aspects of soft skills, you start learning as a child such as communication and empathy. The early stages of life teach you a decent amount of skills that you don’t even realize. A child’s caretakers or parents are the initial stages in their learning process. Hearing the voice, the youngster imitates their caregiver. Imitation is the first step in learning

Communication skills are developed at home when caretaker’s code and say love words to their kid, and the child caught up on this. A child’s first words are “Da da or daddy or Paa” or “Ma Ma or mamma or mummy,” which were mimicked by parents or caretakers. This is called verbal communication, and it develops when parents speak to their children. There have been situations when children were not talked to and were kept in their rooms, resulting in a slew of communication issues.

The first decision a youngster makes is whether to buy two toys or two flavors of ice cream. Similarly, respect for those who work for us, gratitude, and empathy are first seen and recorded at home. Media such as television and mobile phones may be added to the repertory. School comes later, and the social circle contributes to the learning. The family has the most effect on one’s life.

These slow and steady soft skills are developed in all individuals, which can be polished in the later stages of life when they go to college or start working for an organization. Everyone possesses soft skills, it is a matter of time, some exhibit spontaneously and some need a push to identify their soft skills and develop them. The circle of influence in one’s life begins with his family and expands throughout time. Family is the most influential person in one’s life since it is where the fundamental connections of love and relationship are formed. Friends have a bigger role, and media such as television and mobile phones have become additional sources of influence. School is also playing an important role, and as you grow older, your careers become a major source of influence. However, by the time you start the vocational route, you are a fully grown adult, not a youngster who is being taught the fundamentals. 

Your circle of influence consists of the individuals who are closest to you and with whom your decisions are intertwined. These are the people who contribute to your total success and pleasure and vice versa. You must learn how to effectively use your communication skills to influence, convince, and connect with others in this circle since they will contribute to your feeling of well-being, potential, and will be the ones from whom you seek support and connection.

Communication technique like persuasion assists you in remaining mindful of the needs and desires of those with whom you are communicating – those in your circle of influence – and in responding to those needs or desires in a manner, which is understood and guides to open conversation for what you have to say or offer.

The circle of influence consists of what you can alter, such as the people you interact with and the aspects of life over which you have some control, either directly or indirectly. This circle of influence is critical to the quality of your lives and the connections you cultivate help you improve your skillset for personal and professional success
